National Doctors Day : History, and significance It is a day that the Indian Medical Association celebrates National Doctors Day on the 1st of July each year. However, with the nation battling covid-19 virus this year, the day is of greater significance.

The National Day of Doctors actually observed on the 1st of July to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. Roy was a world-renowned physician as well as a freedom fighter and politician who served as the position as chief minister of West Bengal.

Every year, the 1st of July is observed as National Doctors Day (NDD) by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The day is celebrated to mark the anniversary of the birth and death of Bengal’s former Chief Minister Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. This celebration is to honor all medical professionals and healthcare workers who have served population by the risk of their lives. The COVID-19 epidemic has yet again brought to our attention of the sacrifices and contributions made by healthcare workers across the globe. National Doctors’ Day – History

The first National Day of Doctors was observed in 1991 to honor Dr BC Roy’s work in helping the world and to the medical profession. Dr Roy was born on the 1st of July 1882 and passed away on the exact date in 1962. Dr. Roy was awarded the Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961.

Today, on the 30th of March We celebrate the National Day of Doctors all over the nation. It is a chance to recognize the profound impact that our doctors provide to patients in our communities, and to thank them for their service. The last two years have proved to be particularly an example of doctors’ work as they fight at the forefront of the COVID-19 epidemic, being a beacon for all of us as we work towards an optimistic future.

Celebrations

The celebrations for Doctor’s Day are very simple and distinct. Doctor’s Day is celebrated in an ethereal and quiet way. The celebrations focus more on the importance of recognizing the services of the whole medical profession to all. Doctors are presented with cards and flowers for their amazing contributions to our lives. The common forums are set up to allow groups from the medical professionals to discuss their experiences. At the end of the day, medical professionals are recognized and rewarded for their amazing developments, breakthroughs and contribution to advancements in medical research and patient care.

The struggles of the doctor and his sacrifices during COVID

Medical professionals and doctors specifically were subjected to constant exposure to Covid-19, which is a highly transmissible disease during the outbreak. The brave warriors battled each day in hospital and were away from their their loved ones. To avoid illness, some doctors been unable to return home and were in solitary living quarters.

As we fight to put on masks only a few minutes doctors wear PPE equipment (personal protection equipment) for several hours. Although wearing a PPE for longer than five hours is tiring and exhausting, they needed to wear it to keep from spreading the disease.

In spite of their efforts medical professionals or doctors were targeted and treated badly by families of covid positive or deceased patients. Even though they had to endure the emotional anxiety of being mistreated and witnessing the deaths of so many and deaths, they put on masks and PPE kit every day and were always ready to help us!
